University of Cape Coast (UCC) recently introduced a 3-semester Bachelor of Education (Post-Diploma in Basic Education) Programmes in the sandwich mode.
A group of concerned students of the institution has expressed thier grievances about the introduction of three(3) semester programme in an interview with akonnornews.com
Concerned students speaks
“We are surprised by the calendar which has been issued by the University of Cape Coast (UCC) concerning our semester. We suppose to complete the semester in August and not in December.
The university made it clear to us that one year will be used to complete the course, that’s the main reason why we bought the forms.
We can’t use two years to complete the programme and wait another year for our certificates making it three years for just a top up program.
We don’t understand the reason why the university does not engage the students body or leaders in decision making. They just make any decisions and impose it on students because of their selfish interests. No one knows the clear cut or laid down structure for this programme and non of our grievances are met.
Per the calendar released by the school, it means we will complete the program next year September 2022, the same program other institutions are using just a year to complete.
We strongly believe that the semester can end in August 2021, since we will be on vacation for 4 weeks. It will reduce our transportation cost, school fees and also the risk involved in travelling.
We calling on all students to come on board so that we will protest against this, because UCC is known as an institution that does not value or listen to the opinion of students until they protest or take action. Thank you”
