Electoral officers will be prosecuted for fraud — OSP December 9, 2021

Mr Kissi Agyebeng is the Special Prosecutor of Ghana, according to Google. Mr Kissi Agyebeng, the Special Prosecutor, has issued a notice to electoral officers who tamper with election results.

On Thursday, December 9, he remarked at a conference in Accra to commemorate International Anti-Corruption Day and Anti-Corruption Week, “Any presiding officer, any returning officer who is minded to manipulate results or intentionally misstate the result, we would come and choose them to prosecute them.”

Mr Agyebeng also stated that his agency will combat the threat of fraudulent public sector contracts, calling such agreements as “poison bargains” that must be eradicated from society.

“From January 2021, we will conduct an anti-corruption risk assessment and review of all key public contracts, legislations, and draft legislations,” he stated.

“This was done to avoid toxic deals, judgment debts, and arbitration verdicts,” he explained.

“In addition, the office will continue to educate and inform the public about publicized acts of corruption.”

“In keeping with our objective of making corruption a costly enterprise, the OPS will rigorously investigate and prosecute cases of alleged or suspected corruption and corruption-related offenses, and recover proceeds of such offenses through property tracing of contaminated property and money.”

He said that if there aren’t enough resources to fight graft, good intentions will be a mirage.

“In carrying out this difficult and solemn task, I look forward to receiving appropriate financing and the required materials resources as stipulated in Articles 6 and 36 of the UN Convention.”

“I can’t help but believe that without proper money and the provision of critical material resources, my staff’s good intentions would stay just that: excellent intentions, with nothing to show for it.”

“As we commemorate International Anti-Corruption Day and Anti-Corruption Week, I call on all well-intentioned Ghanaians to join me in turning the ugly narrative of corruption around, transforming this country, and putting it on a strong developmental path.”
