In a publication dated October 3, 1975, the Daily Graphic reported the arrest of a female goat by officers of the Ghana Police Servi, Sunyani, for the offence of snatching and chewing up money which a housewife was holding.
According to the report, the two-cedi note which the goat chewed up, deprived a family of six food for 24 hours as the said amount was to cater for the family’s feeding.
A police spokesperson is reported to have narrated that the incident occurred “when the housewife was handing the money to her maid to shop for the day’s food. The goat reportedly snatched the money, chewed and swallowed it.”
According to the report, a person described as a “Good Samaritan” came to the rescue of the family, including a three-month-old baby, by giving them ¢20 for their upkeep.
The police, however, said it was waiting to claim the money from the owner of the goat if the owner reports to reclaim it (the goat).
