The Electricity Company of Ghana(ECG) under its special exercise to improve on revenue mobilization has arrested ten customers who reconnected themselves after the Company had disconnected them.

They were among 150 customers in parts of Ashanti Region who were disconnected due to their failure to pay their bills and also involved in illegal connection.

ECG continues to crack down on illegal power consumers in the Region with the arrest of 10 more people in the Abuakwa area.

All the ten illegal customers were picked at Abuakwa, Manhyia,Tanoso, Makro and other places within the Abuakwa district.

Some of the people who were arrested have been able to settle their bills and, thus, are now enjoying power.

The night exercise with support from the police was to enable them recover revenue losses.

The exercise was also a follow-up on those who were disconnected for illegal connection and also inability to pay their bills.

The exercise is expected to take place in other parts of the Ashanti Region.

The Taskforce Manager, Ing Fred Kwabena Bediako, explained that the exercise was to improve on their revenue generation drive and also reduce losses.

He said they are making headway in the debt recovery programme.

He added that the exercise will continue until they see a remarkable improvement in their revenue collection drive.

“We thought that with last experience people would have stopped doing the self-reconnection but going out today has proved that we need to intensify this monitoring to be able to deter electricity consumers from self-reconnecting.
