-

Political Science lecturer at the KNUST, Dr Amakye Boateng has said that with barely one year to the end of its tenure, the ruling NPP has lost its grips on power.

He blamed the problem on bad governance supervised by President Akufo-Addo.

According to the renowned Political Scientist “no magic can turnaround our current economic woes.”

Speaking with Kofi Asante Ennin on GhanAkoma on Thursday, December 7, 2023, Dr Boateng said “Galamsey under this administration has been left to fester and some government officials are even complicit and Nana Addo sits aloof without any action” ha stated.

Who partner’s Dr Bawumia?

On the issue of choosing a running mate, he advised that a Christian could be considered for the role to balance the the ticket with regard to religion.

Touching on the rumour that former Chairman of the Church of Pentecost and a member of the Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral, Apostle Professor Opoku Onyinah’s name has popped up in the running mate discussion, he asked “is he known within the NPP circles?” Dr Amakye quizzed.

On the other possible candidates, he described the Majority Leader as knowledgeable and articulate, but he said the Suame lawmaker is not popular in the Ashanti Region.

“People are angry with him in his own constituency, he will not help Bawumia at all,” he said.

On Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh, he described him as hardworking, “he has support in his constituency, but I am not sure whether it translates nationwide.”

He said Dr Prempeh, who is the current Energy Minister is not an option.

His view on the current Education Minister, Dr Osei Yaw Adutwum is that he does not find favour with party supporters.

“Someone once told me that, Adutwum does not take care of the party supporters and that might go against him,” the Political Scientist explained.

Dr Boateng noted however that he has no issues with Dr Adutwum’s public life which is a plus.

“Adutwum can help Bawumia” he stated.
