One guy can’t hold the House hostage — Majority Leader to Bagbin

-

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has been criticized by the Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, for the way he handled himself in Parliament on Monday, December 20.

According to him, the Speaker left Parliament without informing the Second Deputy Speaker, to whom he had given over the reins.

This, he said, was unfortunate.

“He said he would come here at 11: 30,” Suame said to journalists on Tuesday, December 21. “Subsequently, another message came to say that he can only be here at 12,” he added. I mean, one individual cannot hold the house hostage. It’s a terrible situation.

“When he left the seat yesterday, he told the First Deputy that he was handing over to, that he would be back pretty soon, and all we heard was that he had gone to his house, which is unfortunate because I had been having some discussions with him, and I am told today that he didn’t even have any discussions with the Minority, so where are we going from here?” It’s a terrible turn of events.”

On Tuesday, December 21, the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei Owusu, declared that Parliament had adjourned sine die.

The postponing of the e-levy debate would give the Majority and the government additional time to confer on the idea, according to the Majority Leader.

“I believe this will allow us to have additional conversations among ourselves, which is why the First Deputy Speaker was forced to postpone the House sine die.” As you are aware, the budget has been enacted; despite attempts to misrepresent that there is no budget, there is one, and the appropriations law has been passed.”

“I believe this will also allow us to have additional conversations among ourselves,” he continued, explaining why the First Deputy Speaker had to postpone the House sine die. As you are aware, the budget has been enacted; despite attempts to misrepresent that there is no budget, there is one, and the appropriations law has been passed.”

Members of Ghana’s Parliament couldn’t hold their emotions in check on Monday, December 20, as several brawled in the House moments before the final vote.

The sit-in Speaker, Joseph Osei-Owusu, had stated that the Bill, which had been tabled under a certificate of urgency, would be approved by a division, and that he would vote in his capacity as a Member of Parliament.

Members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) appeared to be enraged by this, questioning his decision to vote after presiding over the night’s proceedings.

They made their way to the front of the dais, threatening the Bekwai MP.

This sparked unrest among the Majority MPs, and when Mr Osei-Owusu gave the presiding function to the Second Deputy Speaker, Andrew Amoako Asiamah, a fight ensued.
