UNBELIEVABLE ACHIEVEMENTS OF OSAGYEFO DR KWAME NKRUMAH.(Checkout)

Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, born on 21st September 1909 and died on 27th April 1972. He was the first Prime Minister and President of Ghana, having led the Gold Coast to independence from Britain in 1957.

Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah was in office from 1st July 1960 – 24th February 1966. In 1961, he introduced free education for primary and middle schools to ensure that every child of school age had education. It must be noted that the Education Act of 1961 (Act 87), under the tenure of Dr Nkrumah, was reviewed only last year and replaced with the current education act.

The visionary leader did not only end there, but introduced a policy to supply free textbooks to school children in 1963.

Under the Ghana Education Trust policy, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah built a number of Senior Secondary (High) Schools including:

  • Apam Secondary School
  • Dormaa Secondary School

All these schools have helped in educating most of the well respected men in Ghana and beyond. Thanks to Kwame Nkrumah.

  • made University of Ghana (then University College of Gold Coast affiliated to university of London) a full fledge university to award its own degrees and became their first chancellor, among others.

  • Built the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (previously Kumasi central hospital)
  • Made Korle Bu a teaching hospital and expanded its capacity by constructing the Medical, Maternity, Surgical and Child Health blocks.
