Col Mamady Doumbouya has been sworn is as Guinea’s interim president after leading a coup which saw the overthrow of Alpha CondΓ©.
The former French legionnaire aged 41, becomes Africa’s second-youngest leader, after Mali’s Assimi GoΓ―ta, 38, who also staged a military takeover.
Doumbouya, who led the overthrow of president Alpha Conde on September 5, was sworn in by Supreme Court head Mamadou Sylla for a transition period of unspecified length.
The new interim president spoke of his βcommitmentβ that neither he nor any member of the junta would stand in any future elections that the military have promised to organise after a transition period.
His administrationβs mission is to βrefound the stateβ he said, by drafting a new constitution, fighting corruption, reforming the electoral system and then organising βfree, credible and transparentβ elections.
