The Junior High School (JHS) of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has won the first edition of the Nhyira FM Akan Akansie.

AKAN AKANSIE FINALS SCORE BOARD

KNUST JHS scored 136 points to beat Sacred Heart R/C’s 117 points after rounds of competitive intelligence exchange in the Twi language.

AKAN AKANSIE FOCUSED AREAS

  • Spelling B
  • Riddles
  • Proverbs
  • Idioms
  • History
  • Politics
  • and Culture were all tested.

The competition, which began on September 11, 2021, saw 14 Ashanti Region schools compete for the grand prize.

Benjamin Fiifi Ocran, the Programmes Director of Nhyira FM, noted that the event is aimed at promoting the Akan language and culture among the youth.

Through the competition, the Akan language, culture, customs, and values were promoted.

There are numerous things that most children, and perhaps most adults, may have forgotten in school.

“But, at the very least, because of this competition, we were able to apply everything we learned in school to this modern-day world,” he remarked.

Quiz Masters Remark

Also, Nana Kwadwo Appiah Kubi, the quizmaster, expressed his delight at the prospect of a similar competition for Senior High Schools.

“The initiative benefits all Ghanaians, not only Akans.” I’m also hoping that as the program’s architects, we can join together and consider elevating this competition to the senior high level.

“So that it will affect all Senior High Schools in the other regions, not just the Ashanti Region,” he explained.

Participants Remark

The children expressed their gratitude for the competition’s benefits.

“The tournament has helped me respect the Akan language and culture”. Alex Appiah, representing KNUST JHS, said.

Raymond said the competition helped him gain confidence and improve his public speaking skills.

“The competition taught me a lot”, I didn’t have the confidence to stand in front of a crowd when we first started. “However, the tournament taught me how to be confident when speaking in front of a crowd,” he remarked.

KNUST JHS students received a trophy and a cash prize, among other things.
