President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has stated that he has investigated all claims of corruption leveled against his appointees since taking office.
Despite public criticism of his treatment of allegations of corruption against some of his appointments, he vowed that he would not abandon due process in the battle against corruption.
On Friday, December 10, he addressed this during an international conference on anti-corruption in Accra.
Since taking office, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has declared that he has investigated all allegations of corruption levied against his appointees.
Despite public criticism of his handling of allegations of corruption against some of his appointments, he maintained that in the fight against corruption, he would not abandon due process.
On Friday, December 10, he spoke about this at an international anti-corruption conference in Accra.
He stated that all efforts must be made to bring the practice to its lowest point in order to achieve the nation’s desired growth and advancement.
At the same event, he stated that progress is slowed not only by corruption involving high-profile individuals and politicians. Rather, he argued, every minor corruption in all aspects of life has a bad impact on the country.
“Corruption has been a continuous concern for decades,” he remarked. Everyone in this room understands the threat it poses to our country. In order to combat the threat, governments have implemented a variety of policies and actions, some of which are unusual and severe.
“We have issued anti-corruption decrees that include provisions for hefty prison sentences.” Personal assets of public officials thought to have been obtained through corruption have been seized. We declared zero tolerance for corruption and appealed to the Ghanaian people’s good sense through a moral crusade for integrity and sermons on corruption’s faults.
“We have passed anti-corruption legislation, reinforced anti-corruption agencies, and implemented financial and institutional changes in the public sector.” As part of our commitment to the global battle against corruption, we have also ratified regional and international anticorruption conventions. We’ve even burned people at the stake simply because we suspected them of being corrupt.
“The driver who knowingly puts a faulty vehicle on the road with the intent of paying bribes to the traffic Policeman, the Policeman who takes a bribe to allow unlicensed drivers on the road, the planning official who allows a house to be built on the waterway after receiving a bribe, the GRA official who accepts a bribe and allows goods in without paying duties, the officials who allow drugs to be imported into and out of the country after receiving a bribe Even if they don’t make the news, all of these behaviors are corrupt and stifle our progress.”
