Large iron ore resources have been identified in the Oti region.

-

In Akokrowa, a farming village in Ghana’s Oti Region, the Ghana Geological Survey Authority discovered huge quantities of iron ore reserves.

According to the geological research, the iron ore is 55.22 percent (fe) and of higher grade.

At a meeting with the Chiefs and people of Akokrowa on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Samuel A Jinapor, stated that government will ensure that the commodity found in the area benefits the people.

He stated that the government is committed to adding value to its raw material and that the Ghana Intergrated Iron and Steel Development will collaborate closely with the GGSA and the community to ensure that the whole value chain remains in the area and country.

He said that the iron exploration and company will provide jobs and income to the people of Oti and the country as a whole.

Hon. Jinapor, who is on a two-day working visit to the Volta and Oti regions as part of his nationwide tour, described the commercial discovery of iron ore as “good news” and urged Chiefs and people to work together to drive development in the region.

The Omanhene of the Apesokubi Traditional Area, Okogyeaman Koram II, affirmed the willingness of his people to make the project a success in his welcome words.

“I will release Lands to expand and push the progress of the work as and when required,” he said, promising to support the GGSA, GIISDEC, and government.

The Chief also urged the government, through the Hon. Minister, to provide them with electrification, schools, hospitals, and other amenities to assist in the relief of the people, while praising the President of the Republic for establishing the Oti Region, which had been in the works for a long time.
