Covid-19: This Christmas, be responsible, says Akufo-Addo

-

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged Ghanaians to be cautious of their lifestyles before, during, and after the holiday season.

During the festivities, he concedes, there will be an influx of guests, along with heated activities, a condition that resulted in a jump in Ghana’s coronavirus case count last year.

“We should be guided by what happened last Christmas, when there was a sharp increase in the number of Covid infection cases and deaths in the immediate months of January and February 2021,” President Akufo-Addo said in a televised address to the nation on the deadly disease on Wednesday, December 15.

“After this year’s Christmas festivities, we should prevent repeating such a catastrophe.”

As a result, he has urged Ghanaians to make the responsible option this Yuletide season.

“Let us choose to live and act properly throughout the Christmas season, remembering that our actions or inactions will either help to end the pandemic sooner or continue to spread the virus throughout the country.”

President Akufo-Addo promised that enough vaccines had been imported into the country, asking all those who had not yet received vaccinations to do so.

“Let me express it as plainly as possible. The vaccines are completely safe. They have no intention of harming you. They’ll keep you and your family safe.”

“Let me express it as plainly as possible. The immunizations are completely safe. They have no intention of harming you. They’ll keep you and your family safe.”

Over 6 million vaccines have been administered so far, out of a total of 17.7 million.

By the end of the year, the country plans to have distributed 26 million immunizations, with another 20 million expected by January 2022.
