Dr Isaac Dasmani, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Prestea-Huni Valley, has stated that his office requires construction materials to rebuild the damaged houses in Appiatse, a community near Bogoso in the Western Region, where an explosion occurred on Thursday January 20, destroying the entire community.

On Saturday, January 22, he declared on Key Points, “I will need building materials because how long can we feed the victims?” We’d like the authorities to assist us so that building can begin as soon as feasible.”

“By Monday, we will have cleared the site and will begin work as quickly as possible,” he continued.

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia also stated that attempts to reconstruct the community were being made.

“The president has given us the order, and I’ve spoken to the State Housing Cooperation, as well as the mining firms here, and we’ll attempt to put in place the facilities that will support people who have been displaced as soon as possible.”

“The government is actively engaged in all of these processes, and we will ensure that the people’s needs are met.”

According to the early inquiry, a mining explosive vehicle traveling from Tarkwa to Chirano mines collided with a motorcycle, causing the explosion.

“In response to our earlier emergency public notification, the police have taken command of the situation, providing security to allow emergency responders like as the Ghana National Fire Service, NADMO, and the Ambulance Service to manage the situation,” the statement said.

“The public has been advised to move out of the area to nearby towns for their safety while recovery efforts are underway. An appeal is also being made to nearby towns to open up their classrooms, churches etc to accommodate surviving victims.

“Meanwhile, preliminary investigation has established that a mining explosive vehicle moving from Tarkwa to Chirano mines collided with a motorcycle resulting in the explosion. Most of the victims have been rescued and are on admission at various hospitals and clinics within the Bogoso Municipality.
