Otto Addo Hints At Leaving Black Stars After World Cup

-

Otto Addo, the head coach of the Black Stars, has given hints that he may step down from his position after the World Cup in Qatar in 2022.

The national team coach, who is required to live in Ghana, said that he does not foresee himself moving there in the near future. The 47-year-old is now based in the United States.

The former Borussia Dortmund midfielder said that he foresees himself remaining in Germany for the foreseeable future and that this is his preferred option.

“I think, as a national coach, you should also live in the country you work for in the long term. But I see myself personally in Germany in the next few years,” Addo told Ruhr14, as quoted by Goal.

Addo is now the Black Stars’ temporary coach and a scout and assistant trainer for Dortmund. He was given this position back in February.

When he led Ghana to a victory against Nigeria, his West African adversary, his reputation soared.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) consequently decided to extend his contract as head coach to the completion of the World Cup.

In May, Prosper Harrison Addo, general secretary of the GFA, said that the GFA had no problem with Addo serving dual responsibilities with Ghana and Dortmund.

“The GFA has been talking to the coaches of clubs and very soon we will finalise contracts with them,” he told Graphic Sports.

“We are working to get all the technical teams together, as advised by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and we are at a stage where all of them are okay.

“We have to agree to contracts and get other stakeholders such as the government which is responsible for paying national team coaches to agree to the terms and then we sign the contracts.”

However, Otto’s latest utterances suggest he may not stick around after the World Cup, where the Black Stars are paired against Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea in Group H
