Police Officers Deployed To Kumasi To Handle SIM Registration Chaos At Centres

-

Myriad of Police personnel have been dispatched to some SIM registration centers in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital, to prevent any potential chaos.

The customers complain that despite successfully completing the re-registration, their SIM cards have been deactivated.

Some of the aggrieved consumers urged the National Communication Authority to concentrate on finding solutions to their problems since once their SIM cards were deactivated, they are unable to use important mobile services including calls, data, and mobile money transactions.

“We have been here for a couple of hours, and we were told that the system is not working because there is an access code that needs to be sent from NCA before registering our SIM cards. Most of us have already registered our SIMs cards, but they said that the registration is incomplete. My number was blocked on Saturday afternoon. I couldn’t make calls or even access my call balance. I was labelled as a thief when I wanted to make a transaction,” Elijah Ola King, a frustrated customer said.

Another stranded customer reported that her line was blocked, making it impossible for her to withdraw or receive E-money so she could buy food and medicine for her ill mother.

The National Communications Authority instructed telecommunication companies to deactivate anybody who disregarded the order by the end of November 2022 after the extension of the requirement that all SIM cards be linked to the Ghana Card expired.
