Kennedy Agyapong As Independent Candidate In 2024 Election

-

Kendy Agyapong, a Ghanaian business man, the current member of parliament for Assin Central in the Central region, a very essential asset for the New Patriotic Party, and the “Show down king” is in the news again. After being beaten by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia at the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) delegates election to choose a new presidential candidate, Some supporters of Mr. Agyapong have been urging him to stand as an independent candidate to be voted for as the president of the Republic of Ghana in the upcoming 2024 presidential elections.

A press conference held on the 27th of November,2023 saw a group of Kennedy Agyapong’s supporters with the view that if the New Patriotic Party doesn’t want him as its flag bearer for the up coming presidential election, he should leave the party and stand as an independent candidate just as Alan Kyerematen did. Their reason was that, Kendy Agyapong possesses better leadership skills than Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia , looking at how he has tremendously developed his own constituency (the Assin central constituency) and the amount of industries he is establishing and providing jobs for the Ghanaian youth . This was what the chairperson of the group of Kennedy Agyapong’s supporters (Kwabena Yankey) said at the press conference in Kumasi, “We the supporters of Kennedy Agyapong representing the 37 percent of the NPP delegates, wish to inform the general public that Kennedy Agyapong needs to be the next president of Ghana. We are advocating for Kennedy Agyapong and we urge him to stand as an independent candidate for a massive win in 2024.”

As it stands now, Kendy Agyapong has remained quite on this matter and doesn’t seem to be responding to it anytime soon. In actual sense, Kennedy Agyapong running as an independent candidate will be a huge blow to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) which they can’t afford if they really want to win the 2024 presidential election. What do you think, should Kennedy Agyapong run as an independent candidate?.
