2024 Elections: EC Declares Readiness To Finalize Collation Of Ablekuma North Results

-

Fred Tetteh, Deputy Director of Research at the Electoral Commission has confirmed the Commission’s readiness to complete the collation of parliamentary results for the Ablekuma North constituency following a delay due to security concerns.

Speaking in an interview on Citi FM on February 6, 2025, Tetteh assured the public that the Commission is now fully prepared to proceed.

“As it stands now, the Commission is ready to finalize the collation by incorporating results from the remaining three polling stations and make the final declaration,” Tetteh stated.

“We have formally written to the police for security assistance, as we do not want a recurrence of the incidents on January 17, the results are ready, and once security is assured, we will proceed with the final collation and declaration,” citinewsroom.com quoted him to have said.

He refuted claims by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that the matter remains in court, asserting that he has no knowledge of any ongoing legal proceedings regarding the issue.

The collation process was initially suspended after a High Court ruling on January 4, 2025, directed the EC to finalize and declare results for four outstanding parliamentary elections.

The collation for Ablekuma North commenced on January 8, 2025, but was halted due to incomplete results from three polling stations.

Meanwhile, tensions remain high in the constituency as both NPP’s Akua Afriyieh and NDC’s Ewurabena Aubyn have erected billboards declaring victory, despite the EC not yet announcing the final results.

The re-collation process has been delayed due to frequent disputes and chaos, leading to rising tensions and uncertainty.

Ablekuma North remains the only constituency from the December 7 parliamentary election without a declared winner.

The EC is yet to announce a new date for the re-collation of results in the constituency.
