Tamale Teaching Hospital CEO Dismissed Over Alleged Negligence

-

Dr. Adam Atiku, Chief Executive Officer of the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH), has been relieved of his duties following allegations of negligence linked to the recent death of a patient at the hospital’s Accident and Emergency Ward.

The dismissal was announced by the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, after a visit to the facility on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, to personally evaluate the situation.

“I have formally dismissed the CEO of the Tamale Teaching Hospital with immediate effect,” the Minister was quoted by Joy News.

The decision comes amid mounting public concern over the declining state of healthcare services at the hospital, where numerous critical medical machines are reportedly out of service.

During his tour, the Health Minister voiced frustration over the inoperative equipment, especially given that suppliers had already been paid. He also pointed to the broader impact of the ongoing water crisis in Tamale, noting that it is severely affecting the hospital’s operations and calling for urgent intervention at the presidential level.

Addressing efforts to address the facility’s equipment issues, Mr. Akandoh emphasized that the Ministry’s response would be shaped by consultations with the hospital’s leadership.

“When we’re done engaging with them, we’ll find the best way forward together. I cannot do this alone—we have to work collaboratively. I urge everyone to stay calm and continue using the hospital’s services,” he said.
