NDC’s Ewurabena Aubynn Wins Ablekuma North Parliamentary Seat- Ghanaians React

The National Democratic Congress Parliamentary Candidate for Ablekuma North, Ewurabena Aubynn has been elected as Member of Parliament-elect for the constituency.
She polled 34,090 votes to beat the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate Akua Afriyie who garnered 33,881 votes.

The rerun held on Friday, July 11, 2025, came after a lengthy controversy over the first parliamentary results in December 2024, in which the counting of results from 19 voting stations was stopped by rioting at the collation center.

Following months of delay and security concerns, the Commission decided to rerun the poll in the impacted areas, despite a High Court’s subsequent ruling for the EC to finish the process.

With over 6,000 voters anticipated to cast ballots, the repeat election attracted a strong turnout.

Although there were sporadic incidents of violence in some areas of the constituency, the process went quite well in the majority of the centers.

At the Ablekuma North constituency’s St. Peter’s Society Methodist Church polling booth in Odorkor, tensions increased.

When a gang of anonymous “macho men” invaded the premises in a planned manner, arriving in a pickup truck with several motorcycles, the election rerun was forcefully disrupted, causing alarm among voters, security forces, and electoral staff.

According to eyewitnesses, the attackers overran the security detail and attacked a number of prominent personalities, including former MP and former Fisheries Minister Mavis Hawa Koomson.

Before police stepped in, disturbing video footage shows her being pushed to the ground and allegedly stomped in the chest and groin area.
