Two NPP Members Seek Court Injunction Against Delegates Conference

Two members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Shamsudeen Iddrisu and Boateng Kwadwo, have filed a motion at the High Court in Accra seeking to halt the party’s upcoming Extraordinary National Delegates Conference.

Filed on July 14, 2025, through their legal representative, Agyemang Duah of CharisBrit Legal Consult, the plaintiffs are requesting an interlocutory injunction to restrain the NPP from proceeding with the conference scheduled to take place at the University of Ghana Stadium from July 18 to 20, 2025.

According to court documents reviewed by this outlet, the applicants argue that holding the event could undermine the fair resolution of a substantive case they have already brought against the party. They contend that organizing the conference violates internal party procedures and may prejudice the outcome of the ongoing legal challenge.

The application, filed under Order 25 of the High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2004 (C.I. 47), urges the court to maintain the status quo until the core issues in the substantive case are resolved. The plaintiffs are also asking the court to issue any additional orders it deems necessary to uphold fairness and justice.

As of the time of this report, the NPP had not released an official statement in response to the court action.

The Extraordinary National Delegates Conference is a critical fixture on the party’s calendar, typically convened to deliberate on major policy and leadership matters. A court-ordered suspension could significantly impact internal party planning and preparations ahead of the 2028 general elections.
