A Nurse At Walewale Killed By Some Members Of The Town – Nurses Threaten To Withdraw From Service

-

Yesterday Sunday October 8th 2023, a Nurse at the Walewale hospital by name Salifu Abdulai popularly known as “EXPENSIVE” from Nalerigu was beaten to pulp and buttered by some hooligans and dumped somewhere.

A good Samaritan identified him and notified his co-tenants who rushed him to the Walewale hospital yesterday around midday. He was subsequently referred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital later in the evening around 7pm and he unfortunately passed on in the early hours of today.

This is not the first time Nurses are been attacked by residents of Walewale. In 2018, a Nurse by name Yussif Kariyama now the Deema-Naa of Nasia was beaten right inside the Emergency ward of the hospital whilst on duty. The culprits were arrested and arraign before court in Tamale and after months of back and forth, the case ended as a foolish case. There are countless occasions of Nurses being slapped by residents whilst on duty.

The most painful aspect of it all is, Abdulai Salifu is one of the few hardworking and committed Nurses in the hospital. He was posted to the Savelugu Municipality and worked there for almost 6 years, he took transfer to the West Mamprusi Municipality only last year to serve his people and also to be closer to home, only for his live to be taken in this painful manner by his own people.

Walewale hospital is the only hospital where patients or their relatives will come and disregard every rule in the hospital and when Nurses want to complain, they’ll be like “Don’t you know it’s my brother that bought the Ambulance for the hospital” or “Don’t you know it was my uncle that built the Paediatric ward for the hospital”? or they’ll begin boosting of their political positions.

The killing of Salifu Abdulai is the height of it all and if those hooligans are not brought to book and dealt with accordingly, the Nurses of the hospital and the entire Municipality will lay down their tools. This is an attack on the Nursing profession and this issue shall not be swept under the carpet.

This is very unfortunate and a big blow to the deceased family and the entire Nursing fraternity. The deceased was my classmate back at Nalerigu College of Nursing and midwifery.
