Fire-Damaged Adum Building To Be Demolished By July 31, Traders Told To Stop Illegal Renovations Works

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has directed traders to cease all unauthorized renovation activities on the fire-ravaged building located at Adum Railways Market burnt on 5th March fire disaster.

Speaking speaking to the media, the KMA Boss emphasized that the safety of lives and the future of the commercial area depend on immediate compliance.

“As a human being, you’ve worked tirelessly and saved every cedi, only to have fire consume it all,” Ofori Boadu lamented.

But he was quick to stress that sentiment alone cannot justify the dangerous rebuilding efforts currently underway.

“We have repeatedly advised that the building must be clamped down. If left standing in its current state, it will collapse one day and kill innocent people. If that happens, it means I have failed in my duty,” he warned with palpable urgency.

The KMA boss did not mince words about the fate of the building.

“Those plastering the affected building, what I want to say is this: one day you will go home, sleep, and the next morning you won’t see the building. If you have a store in the building and have stored some items there, remove them because on the day I demolish it, I won’t remind anyone,” he declared.

The KMA boss reiterated that demolition will proceed without prior announcement, emphasizing that traders will find the building demolished when they return to work.

He set a firm deadline for the demolition to be completed by July 31, after which the assembly will engage stakeholders to rebuild the structure.

“By the latest, July 31st, you won’t find the affected building there. We will demolish it, then meet with them to rebuild it again.”
