Benkum SHS Headmaster Interdicted For Allegedly Raping 15 Students, Some Teachers Also Accused of Sexually Abusing Girls In The School—GES Begins Probe

-

The Ghana Education Service (GES), has asked the headteacher of Benkum Senior High School, Emmanuel Nyarko, to step aside to allow for a probe into the allegations of sexual abuse of 15 female students.

The alleged sexual abuse by the headteacher came to light after he reportedly decided to facilitate the transfer of some teachers who were reported to be involved in a similar act.

According to reports, the teachers by way of resisting the transfer exposed the activities of the Headmaster .

Subsequently, the GES asked Mr Nyarko to step down from his position to allow for investigations to commence into the matter.

Speaking on Newsnight on JoyFM, Deputy Spokesperson for the Ministry of Education, Mr Yaw Opoku Mensah, explained that GES is taking steps to ensure that these things do not persist in schools.

“We are keeping a close eye on the development, this is actually within the domain of the management of the Ghana Education Service,” he said.

He explained that the Service is determined to ensure that all its rules and regulations are followed to the core which influenced its decision to ask the headmaster to step aside for investigations.

Although it is not yet clear when this alleged sexual harassment began, the Education Service says it is determined to uproot such rot from schools.

Mr Opoku added that a committee at the headquarters of the GES will handle the whole investigation and the report and its recommendation will be given out to the management of the Service.

Also, he added that although the GES did not support such misconduct it will ensure a conducive environment for teaching and learning.
