NDC youth Clash With Annoh-Dompreh Over MCE Confirmation In Nsawam-Adoagyiri

-

A tense standoff unfolded at the Nsawam-Adoagyiri Municipal Assembly as Member of Parliament (MP) Frank Annoh-Dompreh faced opposition from National Democratic Congress (NDC) youth during the confirmation process of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) nominee.

According to myjoyonline.com report, the confrontation stemmed from Annoh-Dompreh’s attempt to oversee the voting process as a polling agent, a move that was fiercely resisted by regional NDC executives led by one Dr Mark Oliver Kevor.

Reports ahead of the election suggested that Annoh-Dompreh was determined to block the confirmation of Philibert Fumey Selorm, the nominee who had previously contested against him in the 2024 parliamentary elections, a legal battle that eventually ended in court.

The report added that, as tensions rose inside the assembly hall, clashes erupted between supporters of the MP and those backing the nominee.

The situation remained volatile throughout the voting process, with security personnel closely monitoring developments.

After ballots were cast, police officers formed a security barrier around election officials as they counted the votes. Ultimately, the nominee secured confirmation with 29 votes out of 38, despite the dramatic scenes that preceded the results.

The announcement triggered further agitation among NDC supporters, who demanded access to Annoh-Dompreh and threatened retaliation. Police swiftly intervened, escorting the MP under heavy security to the municipal NADMO office as furious protesters attempted to follow.
