Police Nab 17 In Major Anti-Galamsey Raid At Samreboi

-

The Special Police Anti-Galamsey Taskforce, operating from the National Police Headquarters, has apprehended 17 individuals linked to illicit mining activities in Samreboi, Western Region.

The arrests took place on May 25, 2025, during a targeted operation aimed at curbing the rampant destruction of forest reserves and water bodies.

Among those detained are seven Chinese nationals and ten Ghanaians, all suspected of involvement in unlawful extraction of mineral resources.

Ghana Police Service, confirming the news in a Facebook post, wrote “The suspects, comprising seven (7) Chinese nationals and ten (10) Ghanaians, were arrested on 25th May 2025 as part of ongoing anti-galamsey operations in the area.”

Following their apprehension, all suspects were swiftly transported to Accra to assist investigators with ongoing inquiries.

The taskforce’s quick action underscores the seriousness with which authorities are tackling the environmental and economic threat posed by galamsey, a local term for illegal mining.

Meanwhile, the Anti-Galamsey Taskforce has announced the intensification of its operations in the adjoining Aowin Tano and Tano Anwia areas near Enchi.

The initiative is part of a broader strategy to root out further suspects and safeguard the region’s vital forest reserves from further degradation.

The Ghana Police Service has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting national efforts against illegal mining.

“The Police remain unwavering in our resolve to combat galamsey and protect our natural heritage,” the statement concluded.
