Chief Justice blames prosecutors for delays in Galamsey case trials
Suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Torkonoo has alleged that her unconstitutional removal is being used to reassure the judiciary by making conditions safer for those involved or intimidated by the ongoing controversy.

In a brief media briefing today, Justice Torkonoo expressed deep concern over recent discussions about new rules for removing judges.

She suggested these discussions are aimed at placating the judiciary following what she described as her unconstitutional suspension.

“New discussions of rules for removing Judges sound like an attempt to assure the Judiciary that after removing me unconstitutionally, conditions will be made safer for those who help with it, or those who may feel afraid by the current occurrences,” she stated.

Justice Torkonoo emphasized that despite her strong objections, she chose to respect the suspension warrant issued by His Excellency the President John Dramani Mahama, even though she believes it lacked the prima facie basis required under the Constitution.

“I chose to respect His Excellency the President’s warrant of suspension, even though it was clear to me that it was not supported by the prima facie determination required by the Constitution,” she explained.
