Company Sues Gov’t For GHC 120 Million For Demolishing Its Properties To Build National Cathedral

-

A private company, Waterstone Realty Apartment Complex, has sued the Lands Commission of Ghana for GHC 120 million for demolition its two-storey building complex located at Ridge in Accra to pave way for the construction of the National Cathedral.

The company, in a suit, a copy of which was posted by the North Tongu MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa on his Facebook wall said it’s unhappy over the demolition of its property.

It has therefore sued the company demanding that it be compensated for suffering a loss.

The Government pulled down properties on an 14-acre of prime lands in Accra to make way for the construction of a national cathedral. The buildings included residential accomodation for Appeal court justices.

North Tongu MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, had said in June 2022 that the government has failed to compensate property owners whose structures were demolished to make way for the National Cathedral.

“The private developers whose properties were demolished have not been compensated,” he alleged at the time.

And the claims seem to be true as Waterstone Realty Limited has sued the Lands Commission demanding compensation.

Below is a copy of the writ of summons from the company:
