John Mahama Pardons 998 Prisoners- Check Out Names And Details

President John Dramani Mahama has exercised his constitutional authority to grant amnesty to 998 prisoners across Ghana.

This decision follows recommendations from the Prisons Service Council and consultations with the Council of State, in line with Article 72(1) of the 1992 Constitution.

The presidential pardon is part of the President’s prerogative of mercy, intended to offer relief to deserving prisoners.

Out of the 1,014 inmates initially recommended for amnesty, 998 were approved for release or sentence reduction.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of Government Communications officially confirmed the pardon in a public statement.

The list of beneficiaries includes a diverse group of inmates: first-time offenders, prisoners sentenced to death whose sentences will be commuted to life imprisonment, seriously ill inmates, those currently serving life sentences to be reduced to a definite 20-year term, prisoners aged over 70 years regardless of their offenses, nursing mothers, as well as individuals who had submitted petitions for clemency.
